I said: let’s elope to Provence, olive trees and stone wall. I packed a pink silky dress, a hat, and lots of trouble folded in my bag. Took a train speedy train across words and minds. Streets narrow and beige, cobbled calados, rain poured and washed out pouts —but not the heat. Walked and walked it smelled of pine, lost and return, English words and sounds, and translated rhymes. Stuffed calamars on a yuzu jelly bed, stars gazing through beams of a pool house —gently lit. It’s morning: would you care for breakfast at the terrace? on iron wrought tables laid on white gravels. The air is still fresh. Sheets thin, limestone thick. And looking into the blue mirror, I said: I’m happy and rested.
